How can you help?

The Chernobyl Children's Project relies upon the generous support of corporations and individuals just like you. Perhaps you are aware of a friend or neighbor who has participated in the CCP's efforts. In fact, we hope someone you know -- either an employee, colleague, or friend -- referred this Web site to you because their family hosted a child. If that is the case, then they can tell you more eloquently than written words what the experience meant to them. Whatever the connection, whether you are a corporate officer, small-business proprietor, part of a philanthropic organization, or a concerned individual, we ask your help in order to keep bringing the children out.

Until recently, our main task was to find host families for the dozens of children who arrive late each June. Our enterprising Belarusian fund partners took care of all transportation costs by finding sponsors in their country; either trade unions, factory groups, or individuals, who paid for the Aeroflot tickets. In the late 1990s, however, new legislation has imposed severe taxes on charitable contributions, which effectively ended this financial resource. In response, CCP now relies upon its community to participate in a direct sponsorship program.

For each $1,500 contribution, your family or organization can sponsor its own child for the following summer. During the child's homestay in Marin or Sonoma, we will arrange for the child to visit the sponsoring organization at the sponsor's convenience (perhaps for a company outing or other event), along with an interpreter. CCP will include your company's logo in our Web site, provide a link to your web site and do what we can to promote your organization to our families, colleagues and the greater community. We will acknowledge your participation in our newsletter, and make it a part of our regular public relations program to various media in our communities. Your organization will be invited to select CCP events while the children are here. And of course, we would be delighted to consider anyone in your organization who lives in Marin or Sonoma counties as possible host parents to the child.

The financial investment is relatively small. However, in the experience of anyone who's ever participated in hosting one of these children, the human return on that investment is immeasurable. Please consider a sponsorship and/or becoming a host family for the coming summer. We would be happy to meet with you personally to discuss your participation in more detail and answer any questions. Please contact the Web site's administrator or any board member.

CCP is a registered non-profit organization governed by a board of volunteers from the local community. CCP is financially sustained through fundraising efforts and by direct contributions from donors. If you would like to make a contribution please e-mail or call our treasurer to make arrangements.
